The term called "fight or flight" is commonly known as the stress response. It's a decision process that we use to determine wheather we will confront or avoid what we preceive as danger. When this happens, the stress response rises up to help us make a decision.

Concern about the response becomes an issue when we constantly are provoked by small moments like day-to-day events, such as money woes, traffic jams, job worries, or relationship problems. Our stress response would be more effective with unknown or unforeseen things that arise in our lives such as the passing of a love, unsuspected household repairs, or national disasters.

I'm not saying that these things are more important that the others. We need to be selected at where we put our resources. Stress response pulls on our mental, physical, spiritual, and financial resources.

Let's look at the affects of stress response.

1. You travel in traffic daily to and from work

2. Your stress response is to "fight"

3. You fight wiht yourslef because you didn't leave on time

4. You fight with other drivers by cutting off or blowing your horn

5. You fight with your car by speeding or slamming on the breaks

6. End results are pain or stress medications, extra auto repair costs and/or poor impact on your community.

Look, write and evaluate your stressors; then make a decision on where you will put your resources.
